Over centuries the two have drifted about 24° apart (an offset called the ayanamsa). Our calculators use the Lahiri ayanamsa, the standard in Indian astrology, so your placements match what a traditional Jyotishi would calculate.
Because of that ~24° sidereal–tropical difference, many people find their Vedic sign is one sign 'back' from the Western one they know. It isn't an error — it's the sky as it actually is. Vedic astrology also leads with your Moon sign (Rashi) and Ascendant (Lagna) rather than the Sun sign, because these describe your mind and life-path more precisely.
The zodiac is divided into 27 Nakshatras (lunar mansions) of 13°20' each — a far finer lens than the 12 signs. No. Mangal (Manglik) dosha is one factor among many, and it's very commonly cancelled — by the partner also being Manglik, by specific placements, or by strength elsewhere in the chart. Our matching tool flags it honestly, but a real compatibility reading weighs the whole picture rather than a single label.
It's the traditional guideline, not a verdict. A high score with a Bhakoot or Nadi problem can need more care than a moderate score without one, and dashas and Manglik status matter too. Treat Guna Milan as the opening conversation, not the final word.
